Introduction
The goal of our project is to explore the bombing of Hiroshima, paying close attention to how it continues to be remembered by its survivors. There is a wealth of knowledge concerning the factual aspects of the bombing. In the United States, this factual account is what we most commonly hear about Hiroshima. We decided to look in depth into hibakusha accounts of the bomb, as well as different types of visual renderings which explore the effects of the bomb after the Pacific War. This website aims not just to serve as a factual account of the events surrounding the bomb, but wishes to explore how survivors remember the atomic bomb and how they express these memories. Through the project, we learned not only how vividly the events of August 6, 1945 remain etched into the minds of survivors, but also how the overall memory of that horrific day exists in Hiroshima continuing to the present today.
